Apple iPhone and hearing aids? ha ha

10 09 2007

It’s no surprise is it. The Apple iPhone is not hearing aid compatible, either on the microphone or telecoil settings.

Complaints have been filed with the Federal Communications Commission because the Hearing Loss Association of America believes that Apple could have made the iPhone accessible to hearing aid and cochlear implant users during the design phase.

It’s not as if we live in the Dark Ages for Gawd’s sake.

Or do we?

I thought there was a law requiring cell phones to be compatible with hearing aids?

I have a brand-new savia art hearing aid and an FM system, as well as a new iphone. The FM has bluetooth on it, so I pair it up to my iphone and talk on the phone that way. I also have the option of turning the hearing aid off to outside noise while I am on the phone.
Granted, this only works for behind-the-ear users and my t-coil is completely useless for the iphone. I would love to be able to just use the t-coil and not have to deal with the FM.
